old-pictorial-big-game-fish-map-of-the-usa-1936-alaska-florida-michigan-minnesota-louisiana
Old Pictorial Big Game Fish Map of the USA, 1936 - Alaska, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Louisiana

This wonderful old map of Big Game Fishing in the USA was originally published in 1936. It was created by Gordon Ertz.

With recreational fishing being one of the most popular outdoor activities in the United States (generating billions of dollars!), this map shows off a wide variety of species that can be found all over and around North America and its surrounding islands.

Salt and freshwater fish can be seen dotted around the maps, with the world record weights from 1936, and it also illustrates the ways to catch them, for example, by boat in the deep lakes of Lake Martin or shallow waters of North Carolina's Yadkin River.

This map looks great at all sizes: 10x10 inches (25x25cm), 12x12in (31x31cm), 14x14 inches (36x36cm), 16x16in (41x41cm), 18x18in (46x46cm), 24x24 inches (61x61cm), 36x36 inches (92x92cm), 45x45 inches (114.5x114.5cm), 50x50 inches (127x127cm) and 60x60 inches (152.5x152.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.

I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 130in (330cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.

The model in the listing images is holding the 18x18in (46x46cm) version of this map.

The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.

Please note the unframed 24x24 inches (61x61cm) map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.

The labels on this map are very small at 10x10 inches (25x25cm). The map is still very attractive, but you may struggle to read the smallest letters. Please buy a larger map if it's important to be able to read the map easily.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the North Sea and the distribution of haddock (Gadus aeglefinus) by Ole Theodor Olsen in 1883.

The locations on this map include: Alaska, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Louisiana, Texas, Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho and South Carolina.

Please contact me to check if a certain location, landmark or feature is shown on this map.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in Big Game Fishing in the USA or the history of fishing in the USA.

This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

The Unique Maps Co.
10x10 inches (25x25cm) /
